Canada's 2016 Immigration Surge

Post by temporal1 »

After having a most-quiet day yesterday, not following election news ..
i woke to a surprise this morning. Trump was chosen as POTUS.

i have not fact-checked.
i went to sleep last night expecting a lengthy period of post-election day legal tussling, to decide "who won." instead, this report was in my email ..

How will Canada respond?

Canada's Immigration Website Crashes ..

Take good care of 'em for us, please... give them a safe space, a little health care, and some free college classes. I'm sure they'll be back after a Canadian winter or two...

This crash reminded of the serious 2013 crashes and problems with the initial obamacare website, that lasted for months+months, stretching into a year or longer ..
at the time, when the U.S. was in such poor economic condition, jobs badly needed, it was revealed, a Canadian tech company had been granted the highly-coveted contract (they invested big money in lobbyists to get it) for this new U.S. government function.

U.S. tech companies not up to the task?

As well, the Michelle obama college buddy link:

Lobbying

In any event, there was an odd deja vu moment on Wednesday morning, reading about the immigration website crash. :)

Signtist, i may well be mistaken, but, from what little i read, Canada protects its borders, and effectively enforces its immigration laws? ..

Interesting to note, possibly many of those now wanting to "flee to Canada," may have scripted/supported whatever legislation was quietly crafted (now years ago) to bar U.S. "draft dodgers" from doing the same, in the event of another draft (?) ..
"be careful what you wish for?!/legislate?!" :-|

My daughter and her husband moved to Montreal for work in January 2008.
at the time i wondered, "who moves to Canada mid-winter?!"

she described the snow outside their apartment building as being "level with the porch floor, several steps up."

Last I heard Canada has "refugees" leaving - turns out they don't enjoy the ice and snow nor small town life, and are returning to their home countries. The big cities are too expensive.

People talking about migrating to Canada are mostly just that, talk. Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham who both said they would have now said post-election they were just joking.

nobody saw that coming. :P
have you heard anything about the obamas' plans? he said, in the event, he would consider moving to Canada. which i found rather tasteless coming from a sitting POTUS. moreso, when, not long after, Trump was loudly accused of being "un-American" for honestly admitting he might question election results. (with no reference to obama's recent statement.)

ugh. politics. "loud" is too much of what they do.

"Small town life". Cold weather. We love the seasons. Cold weather controls insects. Canada hits all the pluses for us as we like those things. We aren't city types at all, obviously.

I don't understand about those threatening to leave the USA. It sounds more like an old-fashioned temper tantrum to me or even an attempt to manipulate voters.
