I agree, But aren't conservatives also out to demand complete control over every country and every institution?
Conservatives are quite willing to share power and space with non-conservatives. Indeed, this is one of the things that make the two very different.

The old woodcutter spoke again. “It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge?"
Ukraine's borders didn't change in 1991, they go back to at least 1954.
How old does a border have to be before it's respected?
Back then it was just the USSR, and “Ukraine” was not a country.
It was a republic, the Ukrainian SSR, and when the various SSRs declared independence from the USSR they maintained the borders in place at the time.
Similarly, when South Carolina seceded from the Union, it did so as an already-existing state and the Ordinance of Secession didn't have to spell out what the boundaries were.

Today at this very moment in the Congress of the United States. One party holds the House, another holds the Senate. I don't see Democrats denying the legitimacy of the 2022 mid-term elections that turned the House back over to the Republicans.

Ukraine and Russia are equally as old. Both countries in their present form were born in 1991. Neither has any more legitimacy than the other and both have internationally recognized borders dating back to before 1991. The USSR no longer exists just like the Hapsburg Empire, Ottoman Empire, and British Empire no longer exist.
