Can someone help me understand an answer to this question?

Why do Americans in 2020 want a President who is over three score and ten?

An online comment said this about the Super Tuesday options...
"The way I saw it, the choices were between a cranky old white socialist, a demented old white establishment candidate, a screaming old white fake Indian, and an old white billionaire."

Most of the time, it seems elderly are not respected in America, except when it comes time to elect a President or Senator.

I heard one commentator describe it (before Bloomberg dropped out) as a race with a familiar old guy, a billionaire old guy, an old guy who hates billionaires and Elizabeth Warren.

Boomers and older seem to have a hard time stepping away in favor of the next generation in every walk of life. In church, in universities, in show business (Rolling Stones and Dylan are STILL touring) and in politics.

Take away Sanders, Biden, and Bloomberg and I think the election would look dramatically different right now. But that’s not the world we live in. Trump, himself, was the oldest president ever inaugurated.

No matter who wins the Democratic nomination, the VP pick is going to be the most consequential decision in generations. Probably since an aging FDR picked Truman during the middle of WW2. Because if the Dem wins then his VP stands a reasonable probability of succeeding him, possibly even before 2024.

Biden could have the honour of having his VP replace him before he can be inaugurated.

Regarding option number five in the poll… I suspect we are all “uncertain”.

For nearly a year now I have held the president's chances of re-election at 50/50. With Biden the presumed nominee I increase the presidents odds to 60/40. As far as I can see Biden is an empty suit whose age and experience don't seem to be assets, rather they make him more vulnerable and out of touch. I never did understand why President Obama chose him.

As a side note, has anyone else noticed how the knives are out for Sanders. It looks to me like anyone, Democrat or Republican, with power or influence is out to defeat him.

Although I'll vote for Sanders in our primary, I expect the old Democratic establishment will prevail again with Biden. I guess he'll win, but am quite uncertain. Like four years ago, people won't have a great choice.

I think that's quite unfair to Warren.

Yes--for both the Democrats and the Republicans. Who do folks think will be the VP candidates?

I wouldn't put the blame entirely on the boomers. The WWII generation represented the last of the modernists, they believed the American Empire represented the hope of mankind so they were willing to die for it. Their children, the boomers, believed in the American Empire so much they were angry at it's inconsistencies and failures and were willing to protest to make it better. Their children are neutral, they evaluate the American Empire by asking "what has it done for me?" And the boomers grandchildren, Millennials, are either too zoned out on their phones to notice or screaming for Bernie.

It seems to me Sen Booker was angling for that since he was slower to attack other candidates.
