so far as i can tell, her distraught mother is dedicating her daughter's life to the cause of lib politics. tragic.

in comments there, i prayed to find words. i posted:
Dedicate your days to Jesus Christ,
this way, no matter how many days you have, they will not be in vain."

thankfully, a few people responded positively.
i feel even more sorry for this loss today than before.

i once had a friend with a beautiful young daughter.
she had just graduated with honors from high school, was about to attend PreMed.
she had what should have been a minor fender-bender, lost control of her car in rain, in town, midday, not speeding or other, hit a utility truck. it "should have been" minor!
her mother was devastated, lost.

one day, she came to our home on business.
we held each other and cried.
the most gut-wrenching part for me was how she looked deeply into my eyes, seaching, crying, "Where is she?!" "Where is she?!" "She was a good girl!"

it was then that i experienced what tragedy is for non-believers. they are lost.
it's devastating to remember.

don't wait for tragedy to seek Truth.
even if you're not convinced before, tragedy will send you seeking.
at least you will know where to begin to look.

This thread is not about politics, it is about our response as Christians.

I started another thread that addresses the politics of the issue. But I really would like to have a thread where we discuss our own response and understandings as Christians.
It is in the "Current Events and Politics" section.

My struggle with restricting what people say or post is that when we restrict one, we will find that later, we, ourselves, can be silenced.

I appreciate your kind reminder, but struggle with the limitations that were placed in this section of the forum. If you placed the thread in the wrong forum, feel free to ask to have it moved.

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

I'm thinking about what ways I would be willing to be involved, if I were in Charlottesville. The more I think about it, the more I keep coming back to some simple things.
  • Prayer vigils, open to the public, that bring God's healing into the situation
  • Organizing a potluck, in the same park, with a theme like "every tribe and nation", with music and prayers from various churches
I don't think there is much that we can do in the heat of the moment. I agree with many people here that confronting them makes them seem more important than they are. I also think it is important to keep our events distinct from things that might include Antifa.

I don't think the Christian response is to tell blacks and Jews in Charlottesville they don't have to worry about people with guns waving Swastikas, wearing KKK uniforms, and threatening them verbally. That really did happen. So I don't think a Christian response is to be in denial about that.

I don't think a Christian response is to support Antifa either.

Finding ways to pray with black churches, serve with them, eat with them, listen to them might be a better response.
