The Best Way to Learn the Bible?

I had a college student ask me once "What is the best way to learn the Bible?" I told him to actually read it, teach it to others and put it into practice in his own life so he wouldn't be a hypocrite in his teaching. I then told him to start with the Beatitudes and spend at least a year on that alone.
