Fights within the Ukrainian Orthodoxy (resp. between church and state)

Post by PetrChelcicky »

By accident I found some spurious information in the net:
The "Dreyzin Report" shows a video where a church building of the Pro-Russian orthodoxy is taken by police in order to transfer it to the pro-Ukrainian orthodoxy. This is a place at the Romanian border, perhaps not settled by Ukrainians - Ukraine was actually a multiethnic state and the now forbidden opposition party was aptly called "Party of the peoples".
In a completely different context - at the German site "Philosophia perennis" - I have learned that the monks of the traditional Kyiv cave monastery shall be expelled b/o pro-Russian tendencies.
So this seems a classical "Jacobine" coup to suppress the politically undesirable church in favour of a politically desirable one.
I call it Jacobine, because the French Revolution was a classical example. The Jacobines wanted a "Gallican" church as a unification of all Christian churches and gave all the church buidings to their new constructed unity. But in this case they were rather unsusccesful: The non-conforming Catholic priests held their services in barns etc. and the rural folks shared these illegal services. Thereafter the Jacobines had to start imprisoning and killing the nonconforming priests. Sounds a lot like early Anabaptism, but with much more numbers.

But as I am not knowledgeable about orthodox affairs: Can someone give more background or links to more information?

Zelensky Govt Demands Orthodox Church Leader Put Under House Arrest

https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2023/0 ... se-arrest/

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukraine’s top security agency notified a top Orthodox priest Saturday that he was suspected of justifying Russia’s aggression, a criminal offense, amid a bitter dispute over a famed Orthodox monastery.

Metropolitan Pavel, the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery, Ukraine’s most revered Orthodox site, has strongly resisted the authorities’ order to vacate the complex. Earlier in the week, he cursed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, threatening him with damnation.

During a court hearing in the Ukrainian capital, the metropolitan strongly rejected the claim by the Security Service of Ukraine, known as the SBU, that he condoned Russia’s invasion. Pavel described the accusations against him as politically driven.

SBU agents raided his residence and prosecutors asked the court to put him under house arrest pending the investigation. The hearing was adjourned until Monday after the metropolitan said he wasn’t feeling well.

The monks in the monastery belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has been accused of having links to Russia. The dispute surrounding the property, also known as Monastery of the Caves, is part of a wider religious conflict that has unfolded in parallel with the war.

The Ukrainian government has cracked down on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church over its historic ties to the Russian Orthodox Church, whose leader, Patriarch Kirill, has supported Russian President Vladimir Putin in the invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has insisted that it’s loyal to Ukraine and has denounced the Russian invasion from the start. The church declared its independence from Moscow.
So why would the top Orthodox priest curse Zelensky with damnation? That is not answered in the article, as the article is pro-Zelensky.

Maybe this is why Zelensky was cursed:

Zelensky was an "entertainer" before he became the dictator of Ukraine. (He has banned all opposition parties.) Youtube has a video of "Zelensky dancing in high heels", which is a soft core gay porn routine that you can search and find on Youtube (this video is not suitable for work). There is another video of Zelensky playing the piano with his, well, I can't tell you what part of his anatomy on this forum, but this video is also not suitable for work, or anyone to watch.

Zelensky is an abomination to all believing Christians.

Zelensky promotes anti-Christian Western values in Ukraine, which has always been a very conservative Christian country. This is why the people of Ukraine voted out their Western backed leader (Viktor Yushchenko) in favor of the conservative Viktor Yanukovych and why the democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown in 2014 in a bloody coup backed by the CIA and Soros to install the Petro Poroshenko and Volodymyr Zelenskyy governments. The people of Ukraine have not put Zelensky in power, the CIA and Soros did.

And now Zelensky has banned all of the opposition parties, so he is President for Life.

Maybe that is why the top Orthodox Priest in Kiev said Zelensky was doomed to Hell, as he has corrupted the government, as well as the morals of the people of Ukraine.

It also underlines that the Ukrainian war is between the Anti-Christian West and the Christian people who live in Ukraine and Russia.

One hope this does give me, is that if the leader of the Orthodox church can still speak out against corruption in government, (like John the Baptist said about Herod taking his brother's wife), then this means that there is still some "salt" left in the world where Christians boldly speak out against unrighteousness in their governments.

In the USA, nearly every church has taken the 501c3 tax write off. They are allowed this tax advantage if they will not criticize the US government, and in return, their members can write their church donations off their taxes.

The 501c3 tax writeoff creates a church that has lost its savor and rightly belongs on the dunghill. I have not heard any churches in the USA denouncing this war in Ukraine, or denouncing Biden or anyone else that has promoted it. Nor do they denounce homosexuality, or the trans agenda, gay marriage, or anything relevant.

I understand you can read the Bible in a public school in Russia, with no consequences. There was a day in the USA, when I was very young, when it was like that here.

From what I saw on the BBC, I had the impression that the trouble was because of alleged pro-Russian informers within the Orthodox church. So if that is true, the issue is not pertaining to the idea that all members of the clergy be pro-Ukrainian, but that they not be actively undermining the country in which they live. (But like "Oklahoma's Favorite Son", Will Rogers, "I only know what I read in the newspaper.")
