Koinonia

Post by Biblical Anabaptist »

To you Greek experts, what did koinonia mean to the average Greek speaking person in the first century AD? My studies are saying it means community, sharing, etc. but sometimes we make words mean what we would like them to mean.

Also are koinoneo and koinonos related words?

κοινωνία means fellowship, communion.

Yes, these are related words. Here are some glosses from Abbott-Smith.

κοινωνέω means to have a share of, go shares in (something) with (someone), take part in.

κοινωνός a partner, associate, companion, a partaker, sharer.

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?
