The will to live.

Post by temporal1 »

The God-designed will to live.

This is something that has astonished me for many years.
Possibly, it first “hit home” after my mother’s first massive heart attack.

Family was called to her side. She was not expected to survive 24 hours.
Doctors said she’d lost 75% of her heart muscle.

She survived.
Our father was living then. Together, they walked through total life changes in diet and exercise, my mother’s prescriptions were so numerous, i once told her, “mom! - you are a walking chemistry experiment!”

i mention my father, because, he was an incredible force for her change, as “the demanding one,” as encourager, as motivation. those two seriously would “do anything” for one another. he did not want to lose her. so, whatever was required, together, they walked the walk.

the first year, the required changes were hard for her. she missed cooking. she missed eating.
she had “always” cooked, a lot, for a lot of family. she enjoyed it. it was a big part of her life.
she was oldest of 9. she was crucial in raising her sibs, even tho she was a child, herself.
she married, had 6 more .. then, grandchildren, et al.

she did it. they did it.
i gave her an exercise bike. she wore it out.
the doctor told her to walk. walking outside was not always possible or safe. she wore out the carpet.

she not only survived, she survived to have quality years following .. she thrived.
later, she survived even more. but, that part ^^ is sufficient to describe “that thing” that intrigues me.

The God-designed will to live.
tbc ..

My son is now in his early 30’s.
He worked for Boeing for 7 years, engineering-something. he worked on 787’s.
He was always a gearhead. so, he is what he is.
Not yet married, but, the possibility seems to be increasing.
He’s still in the aircraft industry. Everything is secret. i have no idea what he’s doing.

Last he mentioned, he was using a 3-D printer, that, he said, “would cost as much as a house.”
he lives in an area where houses average $1M, or so. i’m not sure whose house he was describing.

For perspective on “secret,” my sil is in the video game industry. Everything is secret.
Even my daughter doesn’t know what he does. o.my.goodness. what a life.

Last night, i got to chat with my son. This happens now+then.
We talked about Richard B. Russell. he had listened to the 8 min tape, once, while at work.
He told me, “well, there are worse ways to go.”

i asked him to think about that.
he’s kind of an expert on planes, i am not. but, i know a few things.

i told him, well, from the time of making the decision to crash, while in the air, to the actual crash, there are several minutes involved. long enough for a person to change their mind, maybe not long enough to recover the flight.

but, the inborn will to live is so great, it’s almost certain there would be a change of mind before it was done. the will to live, the God-designed instinct to live, is terrific.

i told him, i’ve thought about this for a long time, from different perspectives. life.
it’s not humans, alone. every living thing has that one commonality. plants. animals. humans.
every microbe. when i view medical scientific photography, there it is. when i walk on city streets, there they are: plants, life, determined to take root in pavement cracks. that crazy will to live.
tbc.

Recently, i’ve been seeing this quote:
“Depression is living in a body that fights to survive,
with a mind that tries to die.”
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ad/77/09 ... af4735.jpg
This seems accurate.
It’s like our struggles with sin. We fight God’s Truth, but, why?

Plants, animals, microbes, don’t wrestle like humans (so often) do.
The inborn instinct to live, no matter what our brains “want.”

From a Catholic perspective we would answer that men fight God's Truth because of Original Sin: the deliberate and planned obstinacy against God's Truth.

Plants, animals and the rest of the flora and fauna don't have the capacity to sin as humans have.

As most know, I listen to a lot of podcasts, many hosted by a variety of people. One concept that stuck out to me on this subject is that people that struggle in this area need to find their passion in life. May times folks just get tired of always being tired.

The God-designed will to live.
I know of an elderly lady who is approaching her 100th birthday. She wondered if she should eat more yogurt to remain healthy. I would think that at her age, she would feel free to eat whatever she wants.

TED / Conception to birth -- visualized / 9min
Alexander Tsiaras | INK Conference
• December 2010

^^This includes a transcript.

Yale professor: he refers to this more than once as divinity. i agree.

Life is God’s doing.
There is a determination about it, whether human, animal, plant. A determination to live, no matter what.
Even when the human will fights against it, God’s design fights for it.

(i think) this is what the “sanctity of life” is about. That life belongs to God, therefore sacred.

From germination, every blade of grass is set to grow, and nothing less. The will to live.

Jeremiah 1:5
https://biblehub.com/jeremiah/1-5.htm
4The word of the LORD came to me, saying:

5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6“Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a child!”…

i believe life begins before conception.
Apart from scriptures, seeing and knowing what-all is involved BEFORE conception - what is that, if not life?
Conception doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Far from it!

All of it, every part+stage of life, before conception, to natural death, no matter length, these are all God’s design for life.
Newborn to great-great grandparents.
