Less harmful than increased risk/ excessive drinking I assume is what you mean?
I'm not so sure about this question... Drugs are, in any dose, taken to alter the mind, which seems like treacherous ground to trod. The same can be said for alcohol when's it's being drunk to impair.

I remember having a conversation years ago with someone who was under 18... He bragged about drinking, and I told him it was wrong, as a Christian, for him to do so. He mentioned that alcohol wasn't a sin and blah blah (he assumed too much on my part of being SB). I told him he was right, alcohol in and of itself isn't a sin, rejecting authority and breaking the law always is. He stopped replying
Now, the blatant issue is that laws are variable from time to place, so can right and wrong be as variable for time and place as they relate to keeping the law? To a degree, i say yes.

Yes.
Sorry - the question was aimed more at Valerie or anyone else who thinks drinking alcohol can be some kind of mitzvah just because the disciples did it in ancient times.

We should weed out those who use recreational drugs.

High enough to warrant the organizing of a benefit pot luck?

Definitely. We might think the grass is greener on the other side, but I think we need to realise just how fortunate we are to have so many potlucks with delicious food, baked goods, etc
