Church influence of family size?

Post by steve-in-kville »

Some groups really push the large family thing. Either it is preached on or there is a peer pressure there. These groups buy into the "keep her barefoot, in the kitchen and pregnant" idea. Others, not so much.

Most here are either in that age range or past it. Vote and discuss.

For us, not at all due to infertility. I do think that unfortunately peer pressure is influencing family sizes smaller than they used to be.

Not at all. There's fairly strong social and other sorts of pressure to have smaller families these days. So that's the way things are trending most places.

I’ve seen an increased push on smaller family size in the western fellowship churches, but the exact opposite in Pilgrim.
I haven’t seen the barefoot and pregnant nonsense though.

I think that's just an old pejorative that people like to throw around.

There was a push I remember with the Baptist’s on certain doctrines surrounding it. I don’t overly remember the specifics but it’s not just a saying.

I don't make things up but I've known to embellish 8-) But mike is right, its something that gets tossed around, hopefully in jest.

I've never been to any church service that weighed in one way or the other on family size. Not once.

How does this "push" you are referencing manifest itself? In actual sermons or just informal social pressure/attitudes within the congregation?

Was not uncommon in Charity back in the day.

The group that we were part of back in the day attracted a lot of ex-Charity types. They came close to guilting people to not use any type of birth control. They had some strange views on some other stuff, too.
