Great parable, Steve. We teach with a similar saying:
“Holding a grudge is akin to swallowing poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

I've always heard that when referring to bitterness, but pretty much the same thing.

Perhaps we can say that the act of holding a grudge is similar to the act of swallowing poison? Bitterness is the effect of grudge-holding.
