The last time I was in the UK, they were consistently called "sandwiches".

They are also pretty common in the desert, because of the sand which is there.

The perfidy! You must have been in one of those expat neighborhoods that desecrate the King's English. I do hope you still use sanger on occasion to broaden your children's cultural enlightenment.

The next blasphemy will be a sugar free sticky toffee pud!

London, Basingstoke, Reading, Southhampton, Croydon (I think - memory is getting hazy)

Presumably those places are in the UK and are English?

We had a place nearby that sold (from what I am told) the best cheese steak within a reasonable driving distance. Older couple had it, retired and now leases the building to a pizza shop.

Rumor has it, the next generation may bring it back in the form of a food truck. This has the natives all exited, naturally. Time shall tell.

Some interesting pictures there. Are you sure you had enough coffee?

Doesn't sound right. Esterly's hasn't changed hands.

That explains it: heavy non-pat populations in those areas. Then McDonalds invaded as well.

steve-in-kville wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 7:01 am Time once again for a food thread. For the record, I never heard of a sandwich being called a wedge or a spuckie. Must be regional.

Two part open ended poll:

1- Favorite sandwich on a budget.

2- Favorite sandwich when there is no budget.
I haven't needed to consider a budget when I have a sandwich. As for a 'favorite', I can't narrow it down to any specific one but the ones I enjoy the most are ones where the bread is very fresh and real butter is used.
