The good that CAM is doing

This is a thread for posting CAM projects that you appreciate and that you have personal knowledge of.

My son recently joined a CAM Search and Rescue team. CAM equips these teams only with basic equipment such as tools and a trailer. The teams are responsible to raise funds for advanced equipment. The team my son is on has several boats, and is especially well-equipped for water recovery using sonar and an underwater drone. I have attended a team gathering and listened to the stories they told of recoveries and rescues, and of the appreciation expressed by the families they served. I think this service is a good thing. Some funds come from CAM, but much of the funding is raised through other means, and the team members are volunteers who spend hours of time gaining their certifications and also in searches. CAM merely gives them a basic start and also a channel for receiving donations.

A friend from my church recently accepted a full-time position with CAM's Disaster Response and Rapid Response. He has done quite a few months-long stints in the past year as a mechanic and other roles for these projects. I've heard many of the stories from these projects and know many people who have served as volunteers for these cleanup and rebuilding projects, and am convinced that good is being done.

I think that CAM does a lot of good work in facilitating these kinds of things and in financing them, but the reality is that a huge amount of what is accomplished comes from volunteer work and other contributions. CAM is just a channel to direct the work and funding.

Unfortunately we can't ask the people who benefit the most from CAM's relief programs. But we can guess what the orphans and widows who benefit from CAM's food, blankets, water, medicine, etc. feel about CAM. Or the people who live in war torn Yemen and the Sudan. Or the Syrian refugees who are give life sustaining food from CAM. Or those in the Middle East and Nicaragua who benefit from CAM's programs. And the schools that benefit.

Then there is the whole realm of people whose homes are destroyed by natural disasters. And CAM comes in and rebuilds. The list could go on.

Yes, there are those within the ministry who made some very serious mistakes, but let's not negate all the poor and needy around the world that benefit from their aid.

Our church has a member who has headed medical clinics for CAM in places of most need around the world.

I just remembered another personal experience with a CAM project. I spent a month in Kyiv when I was 18 helping to pack and distribute packs of garden seeds donated to another mission organization by CAM. The seed packets were donated to CAM by seed companies from leftover inventory after the season was over. 20+ years later I see the program is still ongoing.

Just found out lately that they’ve been able to get aid to refugees from Myanmar. That country has had an ongoing civil war for 70 years. Our news media rarely reports about the atrocities that are ongoing in that country.

They are tremendously helping the people in Liberia. There is a big operation out there.
