(Yes, I realize this thread is four years old 8-) )
I am hearing that in the general population, the reverse may well be true, the birthrate drops off in times of economic uncertainty.

I wonder if this is intentional or systemic?
I would expect intentional. The expenses connected with having a child can seem daunting in economically uncertain times.

Bill Gates is certainly intentional about trying to sterilise much of the third world.

Do people for whom all the times are "economically uncertain" generally have fewer children?

Apparently, Niger is really economically stable.

One of the pregnant ladies at our church, decided to go with a home birth after having her 3 other children in the hospital. Her main reason is because of all the covid stuff.

Midwives are basically unavailable on the open market - you need to know somebody, or else be part of a church group exclusively served.
My wife and I retired from the baby-making business :D so we don't have our hands in that industry like we used to. Josh has a point, though. You do have to know someone that knows someone to get in touch with a midwife. The good ones in our area are retired or semi-retired and the up-and-comers are picky about what clients they take on.

Our twins will be 5 in another month or so. Been out of the "game" for that long...

Niger...yes that's probably one of the areas they were talking about.

Niger...yes that's probably one of the areas they were talking about.
It has the highest birthrate in the world.

In other words probably systemic.

I’m just saying it’s farcical to say birth rates are low when the economy is poor, if there’s true, Niger must have the best economy ever.
