Yes. All the time in recent Anabaptist history.
Even today, if about half the congregation decides to leave, and they feel like they best represent what the church stood for or should be standing for, they will think they should have the school or the church property, etc.
Conservative Anabaptists don't believe in divorce, but on these property matters, it sometimes looks like a divorce.

The old woodcutter spoke again. “It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge?"

I see. I have a front row seat to a few divisions right now, and the people who want to leave just leave (as did people who decided to separate about 20 years ago). Perhaps that is unique to our community here. I must say that it can feel rough to feel like our school is being "stolen" from us, but the alternative (fighting to keep property and buildings) seems even worse.

My advice (hopefully churches will hear this) is stop planting where there are MANY other churches... I don't know if this was the type of advice you were looking for so I apologize if not.

Go south. Go west. Think Texas. Think Arkansas. Think Montana. Think Wyoming. Think New Mexico.

Also think suburbs. But before you think about all this, think Jesus! Go with faith!

I like this.

Yesterday the Pine Grove Church in Chewelah, WA finished choosing the 9 families that they will send to a new location. They are planning to move to either the Moscow, Idaho area or the Hamilton, Montana area.
