Very Sheltered, No TV, a radio used mostly to know the weather and news, little contact with people outside our Mennonite community, (except for the public school we attended), no movies, mostly homemade clothes, etc,. But us children were free range, when it came to cavorting and playing on the farm we were raised on. We played and swam in the creek, played broom-sock in the barn, rode our bikes on the country roads around us, took speedy sled rides on the hills in winter, played with the cats and dogs, and so much more.

A popular trout filled creek was behind us so we'd often go fishing, built tree forts and such. I was given a .410 shotgun at 13 so I was able to put a dent on the groundhog population. We also live trapped them and dispatched them when caught.

We didn't have a creek to play in but my friend did. Building dams was a favorited thing to do, only for a heavy rain to wash it away.
