From my own observations, I think other Anabaptists share your view about the mystics. I was surprised to see a book written by a 17th century contemplative Carmelite monk in Anabaptist bookstores: The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence.lesterb wrote: So sitting at the feet of Jesus means taking time to think and to listen. I have a certain sneaking sympathy for the medieval mystics, as long as they didn't take the concept too far. I think we are so afraid of some of their extremes that we err on the opposite extreme.
The spiritual life does need to be balanced between action and contemplation - so that we avoid the proverbial "ditches on either side of the road".
