Sunday's sermon really hit home to me and I have begun to put it into practise and am quite amazed at the response. I'm not really an extrovert and so it is quite uncomfortable for me to begin a conversation with strangers. This week after listening to the pastor challenging us, I stepped out beyond my being comfortable and began conversations with people who appeared to either look lonely or just not the kind of people many would associate with. I believe I began relationships with at least two individuals that lit up like Christmas trees when I took an interest in them.
I'm a talker so I had to really bite my tongue and I hope to develop my listening skills more. I didn't say anything about my faith as right now I'm first trying to build a relationship with them. God will show me when and how to point them to Jesus. But that is the ultimate goal.
I'm going to give the link to this past Sunday's sermon. Perhaps some here consider the church I attend is too worldly in it's style but this is just a sample of the teaching we are getting and this isn't even our teaching pastor. But he really does have a heart for lost souls. This sermon pointed out to me how I really need to make some changes to be more like Christ in how He viewed and reached out to those who religious folks (the priest and the Levite kind) are passing by.
