Post by Josh »

What are the actual differences at this point between Pilgrim Mennonite Conference and Northeastern Mennonite Conference, which separated from Pilgrim several years ago?

I think mostly administrative, although my feeling is that Northeast is holding a bit of a tighter line regarding non-conformity in attire compared with Pilgrim. Northeast would probably fit somewhere between Pilgrim and Eastern on the "escalator." The Northeast congregation in our area includes a decent number of immigrants from Eastern attending.

Just read an article by Steve Ebersole who is a bishop in Pilgrim. Is the Northeast
Conference into faith healing like Pilgrim?

You mean like James 5:15 faith healing? What was Ebersole promoting in the article?

The article is titled "Impaired or Enlarged". Ebersole is promoting not treating psychiatric illnesses aka bipolar, schizophrenia, or depression with medicine (mind-altering drugs. as Ebersole calls it). Instead, he believes a looney plane seatmate's word over conservative Mennonites who were mentally ill, are now on medicine, and leading "enlarged" lives.

1. What are the actual differences in attire?

The last time I was in a Pilgrim church for a service my observation was that attitude ranged as far as as no top button buttoned, non-white button down shirts, khaki pants, belt and tucked in, athletic type shoes. I don't know if this is normal for an evening service, just what I observed.

2. It's interesting Easterns are flowing into Northeastern. What groups, if any, are flowing into Pilgrim?

I thought that split had a lot to do with the internet?? Or am I thinking of another division?

In regards to the division, wasn't it a "power issue" surrounding Mr. Ebersole?

Aren't all divisions a power struggle??!!

Seriously, I never heard it that way. I used to work for an EPMC establishment going back almost 10 years so I was always hearing the dirt on everyone in that circle (Pilgrim/Hope/EPMC).

My fellow Pilgrim co-workers tell me that the use of internet and beards had something to do with it. That's all I know.
