There are a considerable number of Acronyms (often 3 or letter abbbreviations) used on this forum and it would be nice to have a dictionary somewhere that could be added to explaining these. I don't know if this is possible aside from creating separate thread for each one (i.e. 'NMB Acronym') but I think it could really help some of us that are not familiar with those used. Especially those new to the forum, imo.
Robert, your thoughts on what is possible ?
Anabaptist Acronyms

We had a thread for this before. Seems we need to recreate it.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not after you.

This is a good idea. For the longest time I thought NMB was a conference...

Re: Anabaptist Acronyms
Heres a few from me:
MB = either Mennonite Brethren (an evangelical-leaning Mennonite group most common in the great planes of Canada & the US) or Mennonite Born
NMB = Not Mennonite By Birth
BMA = Biblical Mennonite Alliance (A moderately conservative Anabaptist group formed about 20 years ago)
CMC = Conservative Mennonite Conference (conservative in theology not practice)
MC-USA = The more liberal/mainstream branch of Menodom that is a result of the General Conference & Old Mennonite merger in the 1990's
BA = Beachy Amish-Mennonite
IMO = In my opinion
IMHO = In my humble opinion
IMVHO = In my very humble opinion

Boeing I'll agree with, but I take exception to calling those little Bombardier puddlejumpers (acronym: CRJ = Canadair Regional Jet) a "great" plane regardless of how many Mennonites commonly inhabit them.Dan Z wrote:an evangelical-leaning Mennonite group most common in the great planes of Canada & the US

Re: Anabaptist Acronyms
re: MB (as Mennonite Brethren) The full name is The General Conference of the Mennonite Brethren. There are also EMBs - Evangelical Mennonite Brethren conference, and EMs - Evangelical Mennonite conference.Dan Z wrote:Heres a few from me:

For the Beachy Amish Mennonite I've tended to use BAM, but I try to always define what I mean by a given acronym within each post where I've used it. [Especially if I use MB as referring to the Mennonite Brethren. I never use it in the sense others also use it here and did on MennoDiscuss, and won't. 'MB' has meant 'Mennonite Brethren' long before anyone ever used it to mean 'Mennonite Born' or 'Mennonite Background' (what I thought people meant by it on MD), and the whole concept is rather vague, because it is so general. That's why I tend to specify 'Swiss Brethren' vs 'Dutch Mennonite'.] I've been on MD & MN for nearly from the start, and around the various Swiss Brethren groups for over 30 years, and there are still lots of them that I don't recognize by their abbreviations.
