"Joy to the world" - Lyrics: Isaac Watts (1719) / Music: Lowel Mason (1839)
hymnary.org wrote:There are multiple theories as to where this melody came from. Some believe that Lowell Mason was the arranger; others believe he only changed four notes of an existing tune. What is quite clear, however, is that the tune, ANTIOCH, is derived from various melodies found within Handel’s Messiah. The opening phrase sounds like “Glory to God,” and the last four measures, with the text “heaven and nature sing,” sound like the beginning of “Comfort ye my people.” The tune is thus often attributed to Handel, with Mason as the arranger and combiner of text and tune.

Merry Christmas. My thoughts have been going to Lester Bauman of late. I hope he and his family are well. I sure miss him.

I miss hatsoff. I am afraid his web filtering has caused him to lose access which is unfortunate.

I agree. If there is something I/we can do to correct that, let me know.

I believe he uses http://www.compassfoundation.io/security-appliance.html. It might be worth contacting the org to ask if they would consider whitelisting MennoNet. They have a client base of ultra conservatives that are very concerned about carefully controlling web content, so I'm not sure if they would consider that or not.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel.

One of my favorite songs this season. How should a king come?
