Also wondering how non-resistant people responded to one of the biggest propaganda efforts of the USA.

The old woodcutter spoke again. “It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge?"

Ernie,
^^Did you have a second link?
(In my mind) there are at least 2 categories involved with propaganda, the first deliberately demonizes the stated enemy,
the second is not aggressive in the same way, but represents a war effort of supporting troops (who, esp in times of drafts) are pawns in the games. Even if willing pawns.
To add some perspective about bread .. think of it, no sliced bread until 1928:
“The Complete History Of Sliced Bread”

^^WWII / 1943 / Bread in another war effort: “The FDA bans the manufacturing of sliced bread”
“A Baker's Dozen of Bread Wrappers”

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.
”We’re all just walking each other home.”
