This thread is primarily for discussing wages in the USA and how they vary by state and counties within states.
But it is also fine to discuss wages in other countries as compared with the USA.
Please keep partisan comments/debates out of this thread - avoid comments that reflect negatively on either right-leaning or left leaning political persuasions or characters. Please keep this thread focused on the topic.

Re: Wages in the USA
I found this site for entry level jobs. Is there a map that shows this information for every county in the US?

These look like Bureau of Labor statistics. They are OK but tend to be a bit out of date. If you go directly to the source, there is a lot of detailed information: https://www.bls.gov/bls/blswage.htmErnie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 8:03 am I found this site for entry level jobs. Information is generally by metro area, not county. Sparsely populated places will have little, inaccurate, or no data. These statistics often do not capture the informal economy correctly, which includes people paid as independent subcontractors but whom are really employees; illegal aliens are people who otherwise don't have authorisation to work who do so anyway; and small businessmen who under-report their income. In some sectors of the economy and some regions (such as small residential construction), this could be the majority of workers.

Re: Wages in the USA
For me, wages, alone, are meaningless.
i believe overall quality of life, hopefulness for the future, were better in the world paying $.90/hour for entry level work, than today, which, apparently, offers $10-20/hour for entry level work.
i shudder when people stump for higher wages. When they’re successful, it leads to higher COL, businesses closing, etc.
i have little use for “higher wages,” on face value.
i consider this current spate of inflation to equate to “piracy on the high seas,” without the fun label.
all thrifty measures taken in the past in honest attempt to be wise+frugal rendered useless.

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.
