They didn't die by the sword. In fact, we don't yet know that they have died.

After a ten day search, the Navy is declaring them dead. So sad.

I'm curious whether these seals had life jackets and whether life jackets could have saved them, or were they carrying too much weight for life jackets.

8 foot swells make life jackets less useful. My guess is they don’t wear them as they are all very very skilled swimmers.
Besides, they were returning from a military op and a life jacket might have interfered with shooting.

Yes. It is one thing to lose family member for the sake of the Gospel. It is quite another thing to lose family members for causes like this.
