Re: Lititz Springs Park
Confusing. So does the congregation actually own the park grounds?

Re: Lititz Springs Park
Yes they do. It is a beautiful park, family friendly and no place for a debauchery style drag show.
From the website:
Lititz Springs Park is a private park, owned by the Lititz Moravian Congregation and maintained by the Churches of Lititz, for public use. The Park does NOT receive public funding. It relies heavily on the generous giving of citizens of the community - citizens like you who appreciate the park. Your contribution will not only assist with the expenses of the Fourth of July celebration, but will help with continuing maintenance of the Park, including the Welcome Center/Train Station, other Park buildings and the Lititz Memorial Square.

Re: Lititz Springs Park
If I understand it right, the church owns it, but there is a multi-congregational board that runs it. Could be way off.
As an asides, the park borders the original Wilbur Chocolate Factory and what is left of railroad trackage to service what is left of Lititz's industries. Every year the seniors from my old high school would dump soap in the fountain as a prank. Always made the local news!

I think are right about the multi-congregational board. They have some pretty strict restrictions according to their website. Possibly they need to add some more restrictions, and ban shows that are not family friendly, such as drag shows.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 8:06 amIf I understand it right, the church owns it, but there is a multi-congregational board that runs it. Re: Lititz Springs Park
The fact the cops had to show up last year is why the church was hesitant.

That is because there were protestors at the pride event. They were also hesitant because they had inappropriately dressed drag people dancing vulgarly on the stage.

Re: Lititz Springs Park
Personally, if you're gonna organize an event like that in a public place, may as well expect protesters. I recall that a school Lancaster County held a drag show and it brought on quite the outcry. Hempfield, I think.Grace wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 8:43 amsteve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 8:35 amThe fact the cops had to show up last year is why the church was hesitant.

Re: Lititz Springs Park
I did read the article, and your answers support what seemed to be implied in it. But most of it was filled with hate against the congregational board.
Depending on what the other congregations who are also involved in the park board are like, I'd say it's time that the owner (the Moravian church) reorganizes their relationships, to include only those congregations on the park board that support decent values. Otherwise, maybe it's time to put the park up for public auction.
What other options do you all see? What advice would you offer them?

I agree with Neto. Other options:Neto wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 9:44 am I did read the article, and your answers support what seemed to be implied in it. But most of it was filled with hate against the congregational board.

-Privatise the park and put up signage.
-Build a rather LARGE fence.
-Sprinkle it with holy water.
-Turn it into a cemetery.
-Turn it into a church veg garden for feeding the impoverished.
