Coronavirus Outbreak

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Rantz: Students told to wear mask while chewing lunch, district cites nonexistent guidance

So apparently kids in this school district were told to wear masks while chewing and swallowing their food. What's next?
Well no, it was just one single small alternative Montessori elementary school in a large district with dozens of other schools. And it was due to one over-zealous principal who was not actually following district or state guidance. What's next is that he was told to knock it off.

... because parents complained. What is the official “district and state guidance” on masks while eating anyway?

How long is acceptable to demask between bites and sips?

How long is acceptable to go between bites and sips?

Is lunchtime truly the most dangerous human endeavour?

Well no, the district backed it, according to the report.
Tacoma’s Geiger Montessori School demanded elementary students chew and swallow their lunch with their mask on while in the cafeteria. The district backed the policy by citing guidance that doesn’t exist. It actually says masks shouldn’t be worn while eating lunch.

So the principal was being an idiot? Anyone who has ever worked in any large organization in the either the public or private sector has encountered pin-headed supervisors.

I'm sure the kids are just fine and that no one was permanently traumatized in any way. If that is the worst thing that happens in the Tacoma Public Schools this year then they will be in pretty good shape indeed.

How does the reaction to the sickness differ in vaccinated and unvaccinated people according to what you're seeing?
If someone is vaccinated and is sick they are told to just stay home until they feel better.

If someone is sick and is unvaccinated they are told to isolate and get tested. If they show up at the hospital they are counted as taking up room in the hospital whether they really need to be there or not.
This is one reason why it matters more how many deaths are occurring in unvaccinated persons versus vaccinated, not how many reported cases.

FUDGING THE NUMBERS?

CTV News has spoken with numerous physicians who work in various capacities and all expressed frustration that the province won’t be honest with citizens about how a serious case of COVID-19 can last for many months, with hospitalized patients taking up resources that have contributed to delayed surgeries and the inability to help Alberta’s collapsing health-care system.

Many have expressed sentiments along the lines of “the numbers never added up” in terms of B.C.’s reported infection numbers, hospitalizations and school-acquired infections, and those suspicions are echoed by independent experts and their peers.

“Pre-pandemic, I regarded B.C. as head and shoulders above other Canadian provinces (with regards to) public health,” tweeted influential epidemiologist and University of Toronto professor Dr. David Fisman. “At this point I think they’re just the best data-fudgers.”

And then they changed their mind and reversed themselves. School bureaucracies are like that. What is it that you think is next?

Ken, I think you react to anything like this by saying it’s “no big deal” and an “isolated incident”.

Fact is, two years ago we would have never, ever talked about something as ridiculous as adults ordering children to cover their faces when trying to eat.

No, only when it actually is an isolated incident. This is one small alternative elementary school in a district that has over 50 schools. It doesn't represent anything other than the overzealous actions of one idiot principal. Not everything that happens is creeping authoritarianism leading us into Nazi Germany either.

There are thousands of schools in the state of Washington. Can you tell us how many other schools in the state had this same policy? Are there any others at all that were following this lead? Or was it actually really just an isolated incident?

My point is you always respond, in my opinion, by saying these are isolated incidents and no big deal. An example was your opinion on CHAZ. You and I argued about a spike in crime in Seattle and Portland, for example.

Turns out these aren’t isolated incidents. Portland’s murder rate this year is 4X what it was two decades ago. And across the country the murder rate is up 30%. So yes, these kind of ridiculous incidents like CHAZ or making children cover their faces for no reason need talked about and should not be dismissed as no big deal.

I wonder how long until the CDC admits that the masking guidelines are arbitrary, and no one can remember where they came from?
