Define: “Woman”

Post by temporal1 »

It’s now just a simple fact of life how our everyday language is being (often sneakily) hijacked for divisive political and legal muscle.

Examples: “safe,” “inclusive.”

“Woman”
This is one word i’ve kept an eye on (that makes me crazy).
More and more, this word is normalized in everyday language, to include female children and teens, especially PREGNANT children and teens.

In my view, this is major failure that families, and their doctors, should have never permitted.

A pregnant child or teen is NOT a woman.
Not physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, or in any way.

They are legal dependents, minors; they can’t sign contracts, buy alcohol, smoke cigarettes, be given aspirin at school, etc., etc.

Illinois (not confined to Illinois)
”Parental Notification of Abortion on the Chopping Block?”
https://illinoisfamily.org/life/parenta ... ing-block/
.. Please understand, the [existing] law does not require consent from the parents (or guardians) who love the young woman, who have a vested interest in her mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Parents only need be notified. Now abortion cheerleaders want to repeal even that.

Repealing Parental Notice is a high priority for some left-wing groups.
The Chicago Sun-Times printed an op/ed in favor of repeal last year.
 “It’s the most important bill coming up,”
Terry Cosgrove, president of Personal PAC, told Illinois Playbook.

Personal PAC believes that “every woman has the absolute right to make her own decisions about her body, without government, spousal, parental or religious interference and without regard to her financial circumstances.”

Repealing the Parental Notice of Abortion law does nothing to protect the vulnerable young girls who fall prey to older men, but will instead protect their abusers.
This cannot be allowed to happen. .. ..
“every woman” ..
Children and teens are NOT small women.

The existing laws need to be rewritten to respect families, parental rights.

This is what people VOTE for, often in abject ignorance/denial, then they “can’t believe” this is law. i read this “horrified” response in news comments everyday. many people do not know what they’re voting for. politicians count on ignorance, they intentionally write deceptive bills, they lie about what’s in the bills. they count on a lot of people not voting, mostly out of (standard) apathy.

But, that ONE word. “Woman.”

Put simple words in the hands of (esp lib) lawmakers, and expect hell on earth.
Thing is, it’s become routine. People are NUMB to it.

There is no justifying this.

How do you feel about marriage? According to Wikipedia:
As of November 2019, 38 states have set an absolute minimum marriage age by statute, which vary between 14 and 17. In the remaining states, minors can marry with parental consent, and legal exceptions may exist which allow underage marriage, mostly requiring both parental and judicial authorization, which is often allowed only in cases of pregnancy. 16 states do not have a legal minimum marriage age when judicial exceptions are taken into account. Although in these states there is no set minimum age by statute, the traditional common law minimum age is 14 for boys and 12 for girls - ages which have been confirmed by case law in some states.

In 18 states, children under 16 can marry. Over the past 15 years, more than 200,000 minors married in US, and in Tennessee girls as young as 10 were married in 2001, before the state set a minimum age of 17 in 2018.
Which raises the question in my mind if any of this happens in conservative Mennonite and Amish communities? I honestly don't know the answer. Has there ever been any tradition or tolerance of underage marriage in the Mennonite or Amish churches?

i feel similarly about marriage.
married children/teens are not women (or men).

i’m not rigid about teen marriages. children, no. that’s awfully hard for me.
(child brides) is an uncomfortable question; married or not, pregnant children/teens are not the norm, also uncomfortable.

i’m aware there are people wanting to banish teen marriage.
it’s a hard question. teen marriage is not uncommon in history.

in my family, one uncle was 18, called to serve in Korea, had to get my grandparents’ signatures to marry before he left. they are now in their 90’s, still happily married.

a pregnancy does not equate to or transfer adulthood, neither does a marriage certificate.
neither does registration in the military.

recent medical science is saying the human brain doesn’t mature until early 20’s.
continuing bone growth in children and teens is established science.

children and teens are not small adults.

when i was a teen, there were great expectations of teen maturity.

by 18, MANY families expected their children to be self-sufficient, esp with a highly valued high school diploma! for those who quit school without a diploma: WORK. marry, support your family.

today, many 40 year olds with college degrees live “in their parents’ basements,” refusing to grow up.

perceptions change. so does science.
today’s science says, children+teens are not adults. i agree with that.
they are very capable, they can do a lot, and they should. but that doesn’t make them small adults.

funny how today, grown, able, 40 year old men are “ok” to live with parents, yet, children+teens, if pregnant, are suddenly “women with rights” (specifically, rights to abortion).

our legal system is riddled with oxymoron-ish psycho-babble.
unfortunately, children-teens-families are paying the prices of these legal language experiments.

Girls in my town have gotten pregnant at 10. Usually incest. They're minors. Children. Can't consent to sex.

Can't consent to sex.
Yes. In my mind, in my experience, this is “cut+dried.” Minors cannot consent.

However, there are people trying to eliminate this important protection.
They use language like, “he/she was willing, it was consensual.” (Even JMast made this claim.)

If legal language is blurred, as in the OP link, describing pregnant children/teens as WOMEN,
how quickly does it follow that (the child-teen, a woman, “gave consent”) so, what-is-the-problem? CASE DISMISSED.

i can’t describe how critical i think this problem is. it should have never gotten to this point.
the laws were to protect minors, not punish them. now, ADULTS want to remove every remnant of those protections. they want to REMOVE parents from the scenario.

certainly, some parents ARE the problem.

i believe this is an example of “MINORITY RULE” gone too far.
it is wrong to punish/push away, remove rights from ALL parents because some abuse.

i appreciate his overall message; at about 2:15 he says, for rape, “castration or death,”
i could not agree with a flat statement like that. i’m not sure he would, either.

Back when parental consent was required for young folks to marry under the age of 21 in PA, it was traditional for Mennonite parents to refuse official consent. If young folks wanted to marry younger they would go to Maryland.
