Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

i watched this year. i do not watch every year.
i TRY to ignore opinions before-after. this year, i hit “OFF” immediately following.

overall.
i was impressed with the amount of content. he touched on many topics, kept up a quick pace, an hour+20 minutes, i could not have begun to do that.

i admit, i was watching for him to “falter.” he really didn’t.

i also admit, he/his health seems to be looking better now than when he entered office.
being POTUS has a history of visibly aging presidents. understandably so.
he appears to be thriving in circumstances that most could not endure.
his family looks well.

i was also appreciative that Democrats largely behaved themselves throughout. :D
if only there could be more authentic diplomacy.

i do not have TV, i viewed (as i could) live on the internet. there were annoying technical disruptions and problems, but, i believe i missed little, if anything.

i prefer transcripts over audio-visual, anyway. so, it’s ok.

i was glad he included different citizens, like Buzz Aldrin, who will not be long available, to show appreciation. time passes, there is no going back.

:)
i don’t believe any career politician, or lawyer, would have ever given a speech like this one.
from what i gather, it was overall well received, with predictable backlash over certain points.

i failed to add an option: i rarely/never view SOTU.
strange oversight. i think, in my life, this would be true.

Because of this oversight, I felt disenfranchised - I couldn't vote. :D

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not after you.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

Things like this are best viewed as Youtube videos rather than live; you can speed it up (1.75x seemed to work fairly well), pause to do something else, and repeat if something bears repeating.
Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. (Applause.) And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: All children — born and unborn — are made in the holy image of God.

The final part of my agenda is to protect American security. Over the last two years, we have begun to fully rebuild the United States military, with $700 billion last year and $716 billion this year.
I found this transition especially jarring. Though there's a paragraph break in the transcript, he barely paused for breath. A culture that cherishes innocent life might recognize that all children and adults -- American and non-American -- are made in the holy image of God, and might therefore see a bit less need for military buildup.
