I will say one thing for the Christian Hymnary. I love all the indexes, scripture references etc. also the variety! Lots of hymns, a few gregorian chants, children’s songs, gospel songs...

Our church has the Christian Hymnal and Zion’s Praises.

As to singing unfamiliar songs, I found that happening a lot when I first moved to FL. But for me, wow! I actually paid more attention as they were unfamiliar and I found it quite rich.

Well.. for those who play instruments, the 1948 LDS Hymnal is unequaled imo.
