Looking for a book title....

Post by steve-in-kville »

My MIL had this on her bookshelf years ago... it was about the fall of Rome through a young man's eyes.... I think. He was taken into captivity and later, once it was revealed who he was, was given some authority over some land. Its faith based, I'm pretty sure. I tried to google it but I'm not finding anything.

Ideas?

with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

There was a part where he was given a ring by someone important in Rome before it was taken. He kept the ring on his toe, hidden under his sandal so no one would see it while in captivity. When they finally seen it, they realized how important he was. Thats about all I remember.

I don't remember much about a ring, but are you thinking of The Darkness and The Dawn by Thomas Costain?

That's not it, pretty sure it was a young man.

I've googled this every which way I know how. I'm coming up with nothing.

And you're not thinking about Ben Hur, written by Lew Wallace? Plot, young Jewish prince Judah Ben Hur was sent to the galleys, rescued a drowning Roman centurion who in turn adopted him, and eventually Judah returned to Judea with the intention of starting a revolution, but met Jesus...

If that's not it, now you really have my curiosity piqued...

I wonder.... Have to read a bit more about the book, though.

There was also a 1925 version (silent, I believe) and one a few years ago (2015ish, maybe?).
