Anabaptist Voice - new Conservative Anabaptist Magazine

Post by mike »

http://www.anabaptistvoice.com/about/

Anabaptist Voice is a new-ish magazine being distributed in print and PDF. Not sure who's publishing it, but there are familiar names among the contributors.

I had my hands on one of the early issues and thought it somewhat unusual that the "several brethren" in charge aren't willing to directly identify themselves. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It's not like they're printing unsigned articles.

It seems like it will be an interesting magazine.

I see that one of the "councilers" in the "Our Councilors Speak" section is an MNer. Hey, shouldn't that be "counselors"?

And there are a few psuedonyms on the short articles in the back.

Call It Sin by Menno Knight
Taking The Bait | by Coon Trapper
Bridling The Horse | by Can B. Bridled
Restrictions | by On A. Leash
Safeguards | by Liv Safe Lee
Covered | by May B. Different
Jury Summons | by I. M. Out
Titles? | by: Warm Lee Belts

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not after you.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

I think it's great they are providing a high quality PDF of each issue for free. I've already read and distributed them among friends.

I'm actually impressed with AV so far. It pulls from a broad spectrum of voices.

I agree. I think that the cost of printing and mailing has made a lot of small magazines financially unsustainable. With much less overhead, any donations can go directly to reimbursing the editors and contributors. I think the model cold work.

I liked the issues so far with the exception of the whole Sunday is the sabbath argument. That opens up some dangerous things in my mind and I personally rather lean with Justin Martyr's understanding on the Sabbath.
The new law requires you to keep perpetual sabbath, and you, because you are idle for one day, suppose you are pious, not discerning why this has been commanded you: and if you eat unleavened bread, you say the will of God has been fulfilled. The Lord our God does not take pleasure in such observances: if there is any perjured person or a thief among you, let him cease to be so; if any adulterer, let him repent; then he has kept the sweet and true sabbaths of God. If any one has impure hands, let him wash and be pure.

Great publication but two articles having me jumping on the criticism train.

The 21st Century Comparison of Differences - Issue 2 - Page 30
They wasted this opportunity to show differences between the Anabaptist Way and the Protestant way by using ridiculous lines like, "Emphasis is on "me." What can I get out of it? Gives me a ticket to Heaven." I admit many of these are true but their wording is more like insult than teaching.

Does Sin Prove Faith - Issue 1 - page 13
Once again, having an opportunity to humbly share with me the differences between Anabaptist and Protestants and using it instead to grandstand. Here is an imaginary debate for the reader (likely Anabaptist) to cheer this eloquent and wise Mennonite to victory over this ignorant Protestant.

Sermon Snippets on Contentment - Issue 2 - Page 15
I need to print this list off and think about it often.

I'm looking forward to reading issue three.
