Do you believe that baptism must be by full immersion in Jesus’ name?
New thread, please. This is not a baptism thread or a thread on Jesus' name.

What has that to do with this discussion? Best check your attitude, Bro...

I will not be responding to any more comments in argumentation over this subject. I will not violate the 3rd commandment.

In the future, if someone feels this way about me, I think it would be nice if they’d approach me in private first. I had no intention to start a quarrel here, but just stated my position (that who God is is a lot more important than transliterated pronunciations).

The response has been extremely aggressive - accusing me of arguing with God and being against God’s name. That’s a pretty sad corner to find one’s self painted in.

Is Jesus’ name God’s name or not? I believe Jesus is God, so it would seem sensible that God and Jesus also share names.

I was reading today in my current book, The Ministry and Services of the Temple by Alfred Eidershiem and he said that the holy name was used in common language up until the destruction of the Temple in AD 70 at least and discontinued by the rabbis after that. I had always been under the impression that it was much, much earlier. It does make sense, since so many things changed with the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.

Amen. And same goes for the name of the Most High.. people demeaning one another because they say Jehovah, not Yahweh, etc. They are completely missing the point. It is truly legalism.
I've really enjoyed this thread, KB. Thank you for starting it. The vid was also interesting. I also like these comments you and George made. My experience has taught me that legalism is a distraction from actually doing the things that are required. Legalism is a bunny trail from the core teaching and Great Commission. Legalism is personal pride that creates a myopic life that is often intolerant of others.
