Exhaustive 6 x 9 King James Bible Dictionary

Post by elshaddai77 »

Hello all on here. I am looking to make an exhaustive 6 x 9 format King James Bible dictionary. This would be a labour intensive process and I am looking for some helping hands. I am making it 6 x 9 format for readability however it is also a good format as well to being able to put into a Bible book case.

77,

"Exhaustive" is a very good name for this project. I don't see how a human can make a Bible dictionary but they have, several times. It can literally take a lifetime.

About 20 years ago, like 1999 or so, I took several public domain text files and ran them through Perl scripts that I wrote to create various Bible dictionaries. I give it all away for free now, as the Lord has said. (Matt 10:8)

Due to time constraints, I won't be able to help you make a new dictionary, but you have my express permission to use these HTML files as a starting place for your work. Only the HTML has any copyright at all, the data inside the HTML is public domain. And I am waiving my copyright to the HTML for you to use these files as you can - I put a copyright on these files before I knew any better.

You will need to find a download tool, I don't have these in a zip file.

I think if you got your dictionary into a text file, then you could present it to a publisher. You will still need to set the formatting, which HTML does for you. Personally, I would never print anything on paper, and would rather make it into something you can download or view over the internet.

The downloads in .chm file format (HTML Help Files) are now free:

It would be a colossal project to write a new dictionary, with maybe 10 people working for a year, non-stop, to turn out a dictionary that might be superior to what has already been done. Perhaps providing food or shelter for other people would be a better enterprise. Matt 25:35

That's awesome. You might make PDF files available for people to download and print.

It is in HTML Help file .chm format, but the PDF files would be a good idea. Thanks. John

Ya that is what I am hoping to do is make a KJV bible dictionary into a PDF. In fact what I should is just make the pages in 8- 1/2in x 11in because you can change the settings in Adobe Acrobat or PDFx (which is what I use) to print in booklet format. I am hoping to be able to make the booklet small enough so that it can be in 6in x 9in format and be staple bound. However if not, I guess you could coil bind it too. Here is another useful item I have found. You can only order this mini binders in the USA however. I had to get an uncle who lives in the USA to ship them up for me since Staples USA would not ship them to Canada.

They are 6 x 9 format Staples mini better binders. Incredibly useful for printed Bibles of this size as well I have started using them for a cooking recipe binder since they do not take a pile of room on the kitchen counter.
