This is from 2016.
A priest ministering to a young woman struggling with a former abortion.

2016 - Quote taken from text:
"Fr. Elias said that priests should never be afraid to speak the truth to everyone they encounter so that by hearing the truth they might be given the chance to become free from the bondage of sin by living in the truth.

When priests speak the truth in love, especially truths that might be labeled today as politically incorrect, they are not speaking on their own behalf, Fr. Elias said, but on the behalf of God the Father. And God the Father will make priests “really strong” to reach mercifully into hearts of darkness to bring the divine light of life and happiness.

“This is the challenge for priests today, just talking clearly, straightforwardly and not being scared of the other. Souls are craving for that,” he said. “You see, if mercy stops at your fear, it is not really mercy. If you want to test your mercy, go where it is scary to go.
That is a nice test whether your mercy is real…
That is the final fatherly test of your mercy.” End quote.

I wrote this to my wife about eight years ago:

We're a famous couple, you and I,
I can't say how, to whom or why;
But Sarai and Abram, hand in hand,
Came nameless to their promised land,
Scarce noticed by its settled tribes
Though the ground lay reverent at their feet.

By which I meant that as obscure as we might be as believers in the eyes of the world, our journey in faith is just as significant in God's eyes as was Sarah and Abraham's and by God's grace will have equally lasting fruit.

He
who crafted the night sky
who raised the mountains' loft
who carved the rivers' flow
who laced the flowers of the fields
who poured the oceans' depths
He
whose glory made all things glorious
'tis He who loves us

"We lose our lives for God by keeping them holy and free from sin, and by giving God first place in our hearts. The shorelines of time are strewn with the bleached bones of those who have allowed other pursuits to drown out their desire to live a faithful life."

Sometimes…I cannot sleep

I have known you for many years,
I watched you learn to walk,
And run, and talk, and grow
I was there the day you took your vows, and cemented them in water.
I watched you learn and explore the world around you
And then, I watched it eat away at the fabric of your soul.
Little by little, day by day, I saw you exchange the truth of the Creator for the lie of the created.
Except, I didn’t see it. You see, it happened so gradually,
That only when your life began to repudiate those vows did I notice
For that I am sorry.
To this day, I do not know that I could have done anything differently, except pray more.
Now, I watch you, a world changer, change your world.
There are many places of safety outside my small world,
Where you can rest secure in the hand of the Creator, and in your place as the adopted child of the King,
But you don’t.
I watch you grasp at straws
Try to find meaning in busyness
Purpose in accomplishments
And I pray. On mornings like this when I cannot sleep
Because your eternal destiny burdens my heart, and makes me feel as though I cannot change the world.
I pray
I hope
I learn to trust
That in His time, His hand would change your heart.
That you would see the emptiness of chasing after the wind
And see that the only place of fulfillment is in a life lived when He is Lord of all of life.
And I pray too
That God would demonstrate his infinite mercy by giving you the time to see this too
So that we can spend an eternity together.
This is my prayer, the cry of my heart.
