That's a very good point! As I said, I would ask people what it is if the encyclopedias don't have the information I need. [And another thing, if I had enough money, I would buy an encyclopedia slightly older, so I could get new information.]

This thread reminds me of what and who we can trust -

Psalm 40:4 - Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

1
Simply trusting every day;
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
2
Brightly doth His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
3
Singing if my way be clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger, for Him call,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
4
Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth is past,
Till His gracious advent call,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Chorus -

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by,
Trusting Him, whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Wouldn't that be slightly older information?

So true.
When information/facts are systematically removed, once rediscovered, it’s news to the (reader-listener).

i frequently see this when young black people are presented with THOMAS SOWELL. TS has been present for decades, they’re astonished they got through high school and college without ever hearing his name. They want TS taught in everyday education.

Ditto for scriptures.
THE GOOD NEWS isn’t new, but it IS new for those who never heard it before. Life giving.

Reinventing, rewriting history comes at a high price.

Teaching in balance isn’t the easiest path in the moment. However, “A stitch in time saves nine.”
So much unnecessary misery. Lives lost.

with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

it’s probably the one i have, which i enjoyed very much years ago.
i was still new to reading the Bible, i had an older NIV and King James, i would read them side by side.
then, finding 8 versions side by side in one book seemed amazing.

i had a good experience.

if i were in the same place today, i might like to read the 2 parallel versions side by side, because they now have different translations. between the two, i prefer the older selections.

i suggest looking at the selections in each publication, then choose the one of most interest.
i can’t read Greek. but i enjoyed looking at it along with others.

hope that answers your question. :)

WHen I find a trustworthy source, I generally take their information as credible. They can be wrong, so I wait to hear supporting validation.

In general I would agree with you, Robert, regarding the need for modern sources regarding specialised current sciences ... for adult usage.

For homeschooling and the ages under 17, the older sources have all of the information that is relevant to the cognitive developmental stage of the children. It creates a foundation of general knowledge that does not change with time: the essentials of maths, language, reading, basic sciences and history can be found in older texts. Additionally I have noticed that some of the older texts provide superior methods of instruction, especially in maths.

I beg your pardon -- I meant to say "newer" information; not "new."
