Suggestions for a Web Host

I want to set up a web site. Of course, I want to get as much functionality for as little money as possible. I don't want to mess with online adds because you can't really control them. I also want good design templates and the ability to set up a store in the future.
I've looked at Forumotion, Wix, and Hostgator Cloud.
Anyone here have any preferences or advice?

I've heard bad things about hostgator.. but I'm not sure what to recommend.

I have too, but apparently hostgator and hostgator cloud are two different entities. See
