^^TSA appointment on Thursday couldn’t have gone more quickly/smoothly.
i was 10 minutes early, did not have to wait.

i was happily driving home, thinking of stopping for a burger halfway - blew a tire!
i was able to pull in a nearby farmer’s lane, off the state highway. the farmer came right out and wanted to help, much appreciated, but he was older, probably not so spry, i thanked him, told him i have AAA roadside service .. he wished me well.

i was about 10 miles east of the airport, farm fields and wind farms all around. i called AAA.
they let me down this time. 3 hours waiting. it was about to get dark.

in the meanwhile, a state trooper stopped by, stayed with me a long while .. eventually he put the spare on!
it’s a full tire, but low on air. 15#. we were wondering if the nearby farmer had a compressor?

AAA finally came, put air in the tire, it was dark driving home. thankfully, no rain or weather problems.
i happened to be in a bad place for service. the tow truck driver was grouchy. i was appreciative, i hope that helped.

i’ll get 2 new rear tires Monday. the front tires are newer.

TSA PRECHECK has been approved, i have my KTN number already! Known Traveler Number

i added it to flights coming up in July-August.
Because i booked my 15 yr old granddaughter’s tickets with mine, she will come with me in line at the airport.

I think my CLEAR just expired and my Pre-Check probably has too. Inshallah, I will not need to use it anytime soon, but there are rumours of a trip threatening to happen in August.

The plane broadcasts its position (latitude, longitude, altitude) via ATS-B in roughly 30-second intervals, so the speed is presumably calculated from that. I plotted two points on the map an hour apart, and the distance approximated the average reported speed.

Alaska Airlines 1282 / Fri Jan 6
no fatalities
mercifully, the 2 seats adjacent to the damage were empty.

In addition to audio, toward the end, this has the best pictures of the damage (i’ve seen).

I was a staff engineer at Boeing on 747 in the early 1970's.

I am shocked by the apparent change in corporate culture between the engineer based management of that period compared to the accountant based management at Boeing today. I would be ashamed to work there now and somewhat reluctant to ride on one of their planes. We religiously read the field maintenance reports on our planes to see what was happening with them and we were proud of the design and build quality of those planes, especially the 747.

And this is why you do not let the accountants and Business majors people lead companies.
The Engineers should be the ones leading the way.
Respect for the Engineers!!!

GOOD THINGS: AIR TRAVEL

“The Atlanta airport angel who wouldn't take no for an answer”
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/airport-an ... w9g8fTA-xw
.. This story is about a little act of helping a random person get to a place and making it easier for them. "If people can understand that," said Michael, "this was worth everything."

THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS REPORT IS:
in my air travel experience, it’s not unusual.

i’ve never had anything quite as dramatic as this lady .. but .. the UNSOLICITED aid from others, people you presume are not paying attention .. is touching. often silent gestures, a helping hand, offered without a word. i would guess i’ve experienced at least one on every trip. the UNSOLICITED helping hand. all ages, mostly young people. quiet .. then, gone! impressive.

one frequent, even wistful, message:
“if you were my mother or sister, i would hope someone would help” ..

somebody’s raising good children.

some of the funniest moments have been with my phone. i might be fumbling with it somehow, then a young man or woman reaches, not a word, takes it from me, adjusts whatever, hands it back with a smile .. not a word spoken! sometimes i think maybe they didn’t know English! it strikes me as so funny.

but. there you go. ✈️
