2.4G Modem/Wireless Router

Post by Ernie »

I'm looking for a 2.4G Modem/Wireless Router that is fast and has good bandwidth but does not have 5G. Any recommendations for under $75?

Does it have to work? If not I have one for free...Actually it seems to work fine, but drops packets.

Why only 2.4ghz? If you don't want 5ghz you can turn it off on most routers

Ok. Thanks.

There is some debate about whether 5G causes headaches. Since I have had constant headaches for the last three years, I wanted to experiment.

I used to know a guy who was convinced frequencies over 1GHz made him ill. (This was around 2009.) He had to scrounge up older computers so he could find stuff that ran around 900 MHz.

Generally speaking most routers will let you disable the 5GHz band. I strongly recommend Ubiquiti equipment if you’re looking for a WiFi router. You could also probably find an old Netgear very cheap on the used market.

Generally speaking it’s easier to find a separate cable modem and a separate router. If your cable provider provides it, they probably would sell or rent you a cable+router combo. The one I have from Spectrum can have 5GHz disabled.

I have been using an Arris for over a year and it seems to work well. Cable modem router with g/n/ac wifi. Works well. Mine only has 2 ethernet ports, but you can get one with more. Almost everything I use is n/ac wifi in the house, so did not need more ports. Makes it nice not having to run cables to everything.
