Screen flashes

I recently upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 20GB and since then, I get screen flashes/pixilation, especially when I am running a program like my video editor or the solitaire game that I like to play while watching/listening to some videos online. I am wondering if perhaps, even while my computer sees the 20GB, that it may in fact be too much for this cpu/motherboard?
Any suggestions?
I could easily drop back to 16GB, which I may do if no one has any suggestions.

I have 4 slots, with 8-8-2-2 respectively in the setup.

Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW, my previous issue was overcome by shutting off the Windows updates completely...

I would go to 16 GB. Very few older computers could handle more than that. Or google the specs for your motherboard.

Try pulling out the 2 2 GB DIMMS. See if that helps. It may be a compatibility issue between the 8 gig and 2 gig DIMMS.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I will do that and see if it fixes my problem.

if that doesn't work, post your motherboard info so we can look further.

I think the problem is solved! I first removed the two 2GB sticks and tried it without them in there. For some reason the computer didn't like it without all the slots filled up and kept dropping my Firefox and then my solitaire game. I opened the tower back up and inserted the other pair of 2GB sticks that I had in there and it seems to be working fine now. I am wondering if the other pair just couldn't deal with the combination or????
It is working and that is what counts.
I also noticed that I lost a good portion of my connection strength when I was at only 16GB. All 5 parts of the graphic are now full again.
Thanks for the help!
