Re: Do any mennonites use social security

I really respect the position of rejecting Social Security, and the principles/reasons behind it. Opting out works best for people with stability both at home and church. The risk here is that if a family is unstable, and leaves or is put out of the church, or if a particular church is unstable and...

Re: Which conferences require filtered internet and forbid Facebook/social networking?

None of the mediums which I discussed in the previous post would have been specifically disapproved of in Hope Fellowship's standard (unlike in Pilgrim, Northeastern, exc.). One thing that you have to take into account is that video entertainment is disallowed in most/all of the intermediate conserv...

Re: Which conferences require filtered internet and forbid Facebook/social networking?

What is bizarre is Pilgrim doesn’t want people to use Facebook, yet their youth are all on Instagram and Snapchat. I'm not sure what to make of this. It reads like a generalization to me. But I freely admit to being no expert on what the youth, especially younger youth, are into. My experience in t...

Re: Maranatha conference? - What do you know about them?

Does Maranatha have internet in the home or just business? Do they have the same policy of the EPMC? There was a change in rules about 2 years ago which loosened up the restrictions a lot. Internet is now allowed in home and in business as long as filtered (not sure if it is as extreme as Eastern t...

Re: Segregated And Mixed Seating In Church - But Mostly Segregated

I prefer segregated seating. I felt it was easier to get to know the guys my age this way. The nice thing for me is that I can walk into any segregated seating church and find my "place". Even without knowing anyone, I don't have to worry about sitting alone. Granted, I am in the youth age...

Re: Which conferences require filtered internet and forbid Facebook/social networking?

Pilgrim Conference (intermediate conservative) would use filtered internet with an accountability program at home, no Facebook. What Josh and YorkAndAdams said about WhatsApp and smartphones applies, though. I think Northeastern (conservative intermediate conservative ;) ) would not have Internet o...

Re: Which conferences require filtered internet and forbid Facebook/social networking?

My own church functions this way. Lest you think it result in some kind of nirvana, I am sorry to report that WhatsApp is gradually turning into Facebook, with its photo-status-update feature. People with a large number of contacts (500+) will start to spend a lot of their time checking all their &...

Re: Maranatha conference? - What do you know about them?

Why do you say that? Have you read the document? Can’t work for any non-EPMC employer that uses internet unless said employer agrees to a filtering policy acceptable to the EPMC. Good luck on that, I would even have to quit my current job. J.M. Yes, I have read it. The lines are not firmly drawn wi...

Re: Maranatha conference? - What do you know about them?

I believe they now allow smartphones with a security appliance (Eastern's Filter). Not sure if this is conference-wide or if it just pertains to the Lancaster Churches though..... What is this “Eastern FIlter” and how does it work? J.M. I picked this up a while back. I believe that it is the most r...

Re: Maranatha conference? - What do you know about them?

Just curious how conservative they are. I'll be more specific. 1) TV / Movies allowed if parents are very particular about morality? 2) Veils or Capps? 3) Internet? Filtered or ? If so, is Facebook allowed? 4) Smart phones? 5) Computers allowed in homes? 6) Black cars such as Eastern PA Mennos? 7) ...
