Re: Using Scripture's terms and phrases
Any discussion on the use of specific words and phrases presumes a prior agreement on the use of a specific translation. Are we using the vocabulary of the 1769 KJV, or something more recent? Maybe we should be conversing amongst ourselves in Greek and Hebrew if we want to be more rigorously scriptu...

Re: Ligonier Conference Lancaster PA 2016
I always bite my tongue when people offer up praise to Luther and Calvin... I wait to see just what it is they are praising before inflicting personal injury. With those two (plus Hus as previously mentioned, and Zwingli and others of the Reformers as well) there are plenty of things they didn't ge...

Re: Ligonier Conference Lancaster PA 2016
Southerner, you might enjoy this book: The Anabaptists and Contemporary Baptists: Restoring New Testament Christianity There was a discussion of this on MD, the loss of which is lamented. There's a bit too much attention given to Hubmaier IMO, not entirely unexpected given his Schwertler views and t...

Re: The electoral college
The original idea is spelled out in Article II of the Constitution. Electors were supposed to be part of a deliberative body, and to make an informed choice. Also, the second place winner originally became the Vice President. I'm assuming the idea of electors was adapted from the princes and archbi...

Re: REACH 2017
I wish either this or Rosedale's REACH would consider a name change. We were using the name first. The newcomers should be the ones to change, YES? ;) Yes, if CMC doesn't like that we are using this name. I figure they could care less but I may be wrong. I think it's somewhat like the argument betw...

Re: Non-plain Anabaptists / Mennonites
If Buckhorn CMC or Ebenezer CMC were here where I live, I might well join a CMC church, if my wife were comfortable with that. :? We don't have an Ebenezer. If you're thinking of Truthseeker's church, they are Southeastern Mennonite Conference. From what I understand, they are a Good church 8-) but...

Some people just like to have online conversations with themselves. If there are others around, it might look less strange than having that conversation out loud.MaxPC wrote:I wonder why we see multiple posts in a row from the same member in any given thread?

Re: Who "owns" the Conservative Anabaptists?
MCUSA, in my opinion, has much more in common with evangelical churches than with conservative anabaptist churches. I feel like literally the only thing we have in common is the name Mennonite. I don't think MCUSA has much at all in common with evangelical churches. CMC, BMA, AMEC, and LMC do, but ...
