Re: Dizzying Array of Crime+(No) Punishment-Punishment Decisions
Yesterday I was hearing about a local Venezuelan refugee couple. This couple is here legally, just recently arrived. Middle class in Venezuela, flat broke here. Sold their nice home in Venezuela for only $4,000 and now pay $2,000 per month rent. Was robbed repeatedly on the way through Mexico. They...

Re: 2024 Border Legislation
That is not what 8 USC-1182 F says. You might be quoting some other provision of law but not that. You can google this or any other citation of law and find the actual provision. For example https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1182 Scroll down to paragraph F and you will see it is as I descri...

Re: 2024 Border Legislation
Did you even read the section of Federal Law that you just cited? First, none of it applies to asylum claims. Second, the chapter of law you cited sets out certain classes of inadmissible aliens: Those with infectious diseases, those with multiple convictions, drug traffickers, terrorists, etc. and...

Re: 2024 Border Legislation
Bottom line? If Republicans pull the plug on this due to fealty to Trump who apparently wants a heightened immigration crisis to run on in the fall[,] then no one should ever take anything they ever say on immigration seriously again. It basically contains most of their wish list of policy changes....

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
People of faith and ethics have had to hold their nose and vote for over 200 years... Well... no one is forcing them. I would argue that the energy, prayer and resources poured into that system to "save" it every couple of years could have been better spent. Perhaps we would be in a bette...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
Democrats have been insisting [elections are] not fair since 2000 and maybe before. I tend to agree with them on that point. Trump did not convince me of this. I came to that understanding [all] on my own. Not true. Hillary Clinton is a Democrat politician and she beat Trump to that claim. In a 201...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
Looks like we've moved on from my earlier point, but... After more thought, I should add that this problem of conflating character (how you act) with beliefs you hold or policy ideas, is not exclusive to trumpism... it's rather endemic in american christianity in general. I believe it has connection...

Re: 2024 Border Legislation
I see a Politico headline that reads, "Trump slams deal that would give Biden authority to close border." Can anybody, especially someone who likes Trumpism, explain why he would do this?

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
Well here's where we differ or are talking past each other... You say, "I do not consider a pro-abortion pro LGBTQ and pro open border president putting his own country in harms way good character traits." But those aren't issues of character... those are beliefs and policies! Those have l...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
Trump has done way more good than harm. I suggest you do what my mother did in 2017 and read several books "about" Trump written by others with testimony of good he had done.. Now I have 4 years of Trump to compare to 4 years of Biden. It's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned, his recor...
