Re: What the Mennonites got wrong

I'm the wrong person to be answering this as our family just came out of damaging situation involving a mennonite church. One thing I see that is doing more harm than good is the emphasis on money. In other words, equating financial well-being with spiritual well-being. Highly esteeming those who a...

Re: Good news sources: Mennonite World Review & Plain News

So, who's subscribed to either of these? At some point, if you aren't, and you value news from Anabaptist/Mennonite perspective, you don't really have much of a leg to stand on to complain about the "biased news media" out there, or "fake news". These outlets will live or die ba...

Re: Christian Fads

One of the things I'm really glad about is that Christianity wasn't anything like it was portrayed to me in "Christian" movies are other cultural artefacts like "Christian" music and youth pastors rapping for Jesus

Re: Credible News Sources

In this thread, i'm primarily interested in Signtist's "positive spin" OP. :) YMMV. I think it's disruptive and passive-aggressive to say we're primarily interested in one particular person. It's a nice way to say that we aren't interested in what other certain people have to say. I don't...

Re: Dr Ben Carson - Post 2016 Election

If we think of Trump and Carson as prophetic truth tellers, we're probably listening to the wrong voices. Did I miss some candidate for election in 2016 who is a prophetic truth teller? I don't think Clinton fit this description. I think Carson (like all of us) has a checkered past, but I think ove...

Re: POLL: Relating to Power: The Christian and Politics

It's not meant as an accusation. If we want to be a prophetic witness, I'd love to see a website that says there's no such thing as an unwanted child, pointing to all the people who want to care for these children. Seriously. Let's be prophetic about this and make a little noise. There are lots of ...

Re: Christian Fads

"Christian" movies like Fireproof Fireproof is a great movie. Kinda a Christian version of Backdraft or Ladder 49. (I was a volly firefighter and EMT for many years. I'm allowed to have such opinions!!) I found its overall message concerning marriage quite disturbing. At the time, I wasn'...

Re: Dr Ben Carson - Post 2016 Election

To me, Carson's world view is clearly opposed to a Two Kingdom understanding, and is not focused on a clear understanding of Scripture. Sadly, he has become a culture warrior. And he's taken quite a few "moral shortcuts". I can list some of these, if you like. I'd rather focus on Mennonit...
