Re: Occupations that are uniquely objectionable to Conservative Anabaptists

I didn’t sign up for PPP because of that exact language. In retrospect, I left a lot of money on the table… and I agree with ks here, anyone who took PPP funds had better not ever complain about much cheaper forms of welfare for poor people. PPP handouts were often in the millions, paid directly to ...

Re: Political office

I don’t see a problem at all with refusing to deliver pornography to people’s houses. I am also baffled why delivering prescriptions to people in very remote rural areas requires also delivering pornography to people’s houses. The two don’t seem connected at all. And yes, the post office can and doe...

Re: Photography Sinful ?

We just interpret the text simply when it says “make no graven images”. Exceptions abound for “business use”, which I personally find questionable. Ultimately, plain groups used to be strong in their convictions against the camera and the photograph - nowadays it is simply most Amish and some other ...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

Barring something like a history of divorce, why can't one adapt? It is largely a matter of the will. Main issues I have seen are TV, clothes, what you do in your social life, and (Gasp) wedding rings. I see the bigger issue is jealousy… Mennonites have a great social/community but it’s basically b...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

Turning back to the original topic-- 5. What could be done on a national level to drastically reduce the number of auto accident fatalities in 2024 and subsequent years, until new policies or a new culture take effect? Support the expansion of public transit, especially intercity high speed rail. I...

Re: Israel is Babylon the Great

“” The Israel of today is not in covenant relationship with YHWH and hasn't been for nearly 2000 years.”” Exactly! Zionism has clouded the vision of the evangelical world. The present nation of Israel has no more or less favor with God than any other nation on earth. They are all subject to his sov...

Re: They call it a NEV -- a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle

I was glad to see that Amish in Holmes County are allowed to use e-bikes now. Those hills are pretty steep for a regular bicycle. So in the cold and rain, travel time is mercifully shortened. They actually aren’t; the OOA has just had a near total breakdown in discipline and a lot of members do thi...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Back in the mid 90s, my brother and sister paid about $5,000 a year for tuition and fees, all in, at a private college. They paid it with summer jobs. (Earning $9-$10 an hour over the summer was feasible back then.)

Re: Political office

Ken,

This may come as a shock to you, but Anabaptists don’t believe in swearing oaths in fealty to worldly empires.
