Re: Is the KJV the cannon to which we test other trandlations?

... It's well known that KJV drafted up such a change based on whim and bias. Excessive infusion of post-Biblical "orthodoxy" such as Trinitarianism.... now who's changing the book? ;) This accusation is a bit excessive. The Vulgate had the disputed wording for a thousand years before the...

Re: How long to be baptized

It can take up to a year for a person to be baptized in our congregation. They only open up the class twice a year, and if you miss that, you will have to wait for six months to apply again. We have found that some people take it much too lightly and have had to clamp down on the whole process so th...

Re: Immersion vs. Pouring Baptism

I would think this practise, followed in all details, would not be considered acceptable by most of today's Anabaptists. Yes, traditions change and this is a different tradition. We can learn from it. It seems quite formal and we are not familiar with the symbolism--especially the symbolic meaning ...

Re: Is the KJV the cannon to which we test other trandlations?

But the whole discussion is rather moot. In most cases, there is more difference between an English translation and a Greek text (whether taken from Byzantine or Alexandrian) than there is between Byzantine and Alexandrian texts. Many of the variants are the kind that only matter to scholars. Someo...

Re: Immersion vs. Pouring Baptism

To argue the mode too strongly is to destroy the meaning. I don't really know of any good reason to prefer the one over the other, other than practicality.

Re: What size/version/format Bible do you use?

About the only time I use a paper Bible is during church services. I'm strictly a computer / phone Bible student. Mostly computer. Just a pile handier.

Re: Is the KJV the cannon to which we test other trandlations?

A couple of things enter into this. One reason for the differences is geographical. The Byzantine empire used Greek much longer than the other parts of the (former) Roman Empire, so naturally there is more manuscript evidence. In Egypt and Rome, etc. the textual evidence exists in the Old Latin and ...
