Re: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"

I'm glad for the exhortation out there. In some ways, as unappealing as both candidates are this year to plain sensibilities ( excepting some Amish ), perhaps this is the year to preach the message of abstention and be heard. It will be a much harder sell when a truly appealing candidate comes along...

Re: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"

I do think the choice not to vote limits our stake in some things...particularly party politics and the results of elections... But on the other hand, I don't think voting is a necessary prerequisite to speaking up in the face of wrong or injustice. Jesus did not join with the various power movement...

Only a few hundred were active...if I recall, less than 1/3 ever posted more than one time.

Re: Peacemaking after the Election

I think the governments of this world are ordained to keep a relative peace (in a fallen world) and to met out a relative justice (in a carnal way)...until Christ's Kingdom of true peace and true justice prevails. In the mean time, we know where our citizenship truly lies. The good news of the Kingd...

Re: When people just walk away from it all....

I agree with what Wayne says. Assimilation. Replacing one culture for another. It is probably a sign that their convictions as plain people had more to do with maintaining the relationships in their lives than the veracity of the principles themselves.

Peacemaking after the Election

I've been around for a number of these elections...and I don't remember one with this much rancor, mudslinging, emotion...and yes, even hate. Frankly, it concerns me. Relational bridges are already burning...and the burning might continue literally after the election, because someone is going to loo...

Re: Presidential elections, for whom are you?

Like many others here...I am a conscientious abstainer from voting for president for the following reasons: 1) As a person committed to non-resistance and non-violence as the way of Jesus, it is a moral conundrum for me to help select the commander in chief of the armed forces (or congress or sherif...
