Re: Assigning blame vs. holding accountable... the difference?

All of these well-thought perspectives reminds of a discussion among colleagues in the 1980s. Under discussion was the different methods for counseling students because of the differences in personalities and problems. My friend summed it up thusly: -Some you can just have a quiet word and the probl...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

I believe in a more NT way :) . There is no need for baptismal classes or formal church membership. Both are add-ons to the NT pattern. There is a church nearby where I live that immerses the same day or asap as possible after repentance. Show me anywhere in the NT where there was any testing perio...

Re: Assigning blame vs. holding accountable... the difference?

Outstanding topic, Steve. My rambling thoughts this morning: In my perspective and experience, I have found that especially with those who tend to be pessimistic and negative that a preference for the blame game is pronounced. They prefer to assign blame and walk away. Holding accountability though ...

I suspect the Muslims offer community and meaning to people who can’t find it in the church.
Agreed. This is my perspective as well. I see parallels to those who seek out the Baháʼí and Sikh religions.

A bit of parallel information regarding the brain and aging: the brain can start losing size in the 30s and 40s. In the 50s and 60s, that process speeds up and up to 1 to 2 percent per year of the hippocampus can be lost. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that plays a key role in memory such ...

Re: On Human Dignity

I know some are interested in the doctrines of other fellowships (as am I). A declaration was made by the Vatican today. This Vatican document on human dignity condemns gender transition, surrogacy, abortion, human trafficking, euthanasia, violence against individuals, war, marginalization of peopl...

Re: Personality traits

Every individual I know who is neurodivergent was diagnosed by more than one professional. The process is rigorous, not a simple "Well it looks like you have ----" by your family doctor. Typically there are multiple referrals and analysis that happen before a diagnosis is made. For my chi...

We ask prospective members to attend a series of 10 classes during the Sunday School hour. The content is based on the 1963 Mennonite Confession of Faith (available on-line) and is lead by various members of the leadership team. The goal is to raise as many questions as possible before membership s...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

In Anabaptist World, what kind of methods are used to prepare individuals for baptism? E.g. some Hutterian communities have 2 months of classes and use a written catechism that the individuals study and memorise. Is that the method used in your fellowship? Or is there another method? I am not aware...
