Re: Bible Memorization (Children)

Allow me to have a different perspective. Growing up, from kindergarten or first grade or so I was taught to memorise scripture, read it, and also to copy it. I did the latter about a half hour to an hour a day to practice my penmanship. My relationship with the Bible basically became an academic on...

Re: Source bashing soap box

i can identify with not recognizing if i'm on a Mennonite forum or not, too. when i joined, there were lots of young CM members, interested, welcoming, supportive. neurotic as i am, i keep looking for them. they are gone. In other words: We aren't young, interested, welcoming, or supportive. now th...

Re: What is Zionism?

We define it as a political concept that supports the establishment and development of Israel as a Jewish nation. There's only two contexts in which I've heard the use of the term "Christian Zionism": 1. The financial, political and moral support of Israel by Christian groups. 2. The othe...

Re: Credible News Sources

Correct. For-profit news industry. That's why i believe they should be held accountable to other industry standards, like, Truth-in-Advertising, and, Anti-Trust laws. Temporal1, do you really want the government regulating news? Don't you think we should have freedom of speech? What if the governme...

Re: Credible News Sources

temporal1, are you a paid subscriber to Mennonite World Review (which is not a for-profit news source)? If none of us are willing to pay for good, balanced news from an Anabaptist perspective then perhaps we should stop complaining about how bad everyone else is and recognise that the problem is wit...

Re: Can Folks Afford to Join Your Church?

Whilst I like diesels too, they are a bit of a mark of pride amongst us Mennonites. It's a challenge not to be prideful when you have a culture of being thrifty and trying to do things in an excellent way.

Re: Source bashing soap box

I keep on having to check if I'm on MennoNet or one of the "alt right" forums I read. Sometimes some of this conversation feels like the latter. Can't trust polls, can't trust media, no faith in politicians (unless they're Trump or Ben Carson), lots of sensational headlines… can't we bette...

Re: Can Folks Afford to Join Your Church?

In the average Mennonite church where I live having a big diesel Excursion is, unfortunately, a common way to express pride. These vehicles often have a suspension with a lift on it, emissions and power train altered to get extra performance and maybe roll a bit of coal, and look a lot less "do...

Re: Role of an Elder

I wonder how an elder can be the husband of one wife and be unmarried at the same time…
