Re: Too big, too small, or just right??

Well one church near me was average attendance of 200 people... I think thats too big. The flip side is too small makes for an awkward church for newcomers at times. I like around 70ish myself

Re: Devotion...

I'd be interested in some discussion about what is implied by being devoted to God to this degree. I'd also be interested in discussing why so few Christians of today come up to this standard. I'd like to be living like that and maybe I just don't care enough... I feel like I lack power to do that ...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

I heard it said by a somewhat known seeker who did make it "among the Mennonites finding a church that isn't authoritarian or sliding into the world is very hard" He thinks my church is a good one and I do see some good fruit there. Can I determine what is not to compromise on and what to ...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

Wade can speak for himself, but what I hear him saying is that he felt it was impossible for him to be accepted into the Mennonite church as long as he remained in financial need. To the degree that feeling was correct, the situation did not correspond well with the New Testament's description of C...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

I forgot to state that fitting into culture takes money. So when one can't keep up with Miller's, it isn't going to work. Mennonite culture is expensive! We have never been able to fit into that... I'm very thankful for the clothing shop near us ran by friends of ours (we met them very early on wit...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

I can't say that the church we are attending has made it easy for us on their standards... Some of them they are unwilling to compromise on. Contrary to being upset by this, I feel like its good to hold to beliefs even though it may cost seekers. The worst example of what is horrid is having a bisho...

Historical practices of specific doctrines?

There are some practices I'm wondering about and if they have any basis in history from greater than 100 years ago. 1: The passage about sins leading to death being interpreted as meaning a sin we can't intercede for, the explanation given was that if we saw Jay in adultery that there was no point i...

Re: Conversing with Conservative Anabaptists

Right. In non-plain culture, it is considered polite for children to address adults as Mr. or Mrs. [last name]. In the south where I grew up, we called people Mr, Miss first name. That was respectful. If we didn't know their name and they were older than us, it was Sir, or Ma'am. We started out try...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

In one conversation with one of my ministers, he mentioned that sometimes the women feel like they have to sew their own dresses and start canning etc. etc. - and so overconform to the culture. He didn't think they had to do that. Well the reason the ladies might feel this way is for several reason...

Re: Becoming Conservative Mennonite

I'm not necessarily a CM... I do attend a conservative church half the time, but we are leaning that way. I can try to write up my experiences if they are welcome at a later point.
