Re: Howdy

I just realized the scriptural background for this user name:
But you are a shoesn people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Re: Credible News Sources

Yes, news is subjective, but some news sources let their bias drive the coverage, and others focus mostly on the facts (though bias always creeps in with human beings). We can easily find agreement here. The challenge is those who listen to various news sources have a bias, yes us. So we will rejec...

Re: Credible News Sources

I have gotten pretty annoyed at the constant reporting of "uneducated white voters." Suggesting that only uneducated people would vote for a certain person, while the college educated people were so much smarter and knew so much more and would never accept a person like "that." ...

Re: Word of the year: post-truth

Another quote from Frankfurter : One who is concerned to report or to conceal the facts assumes that there are indeed facts that are in some way both determinate and knowable. His interest in telling the truth or in lying presupposes that there is a difference between getting things wrong and gettin...

Re: Credible News Sources

Sure, but some things really are matters of fact, not of emotions, and others have various degrees of evidence. 2+2=4 no matter how you feel about it. Your feelings don't determine the meaning of a Greek word or settle matters of Constitutional Law. Here, we are talking news sources. The weakness i...

Re: Credible News Sources

you are a curious sort, aren't you? ;) he asked a couple of times in public, i responded in public. some may have wondered why "no reply." now i have replied. I think we're all curious sorts. That's why we need to have grace with each other. I think that's really important - in both direc...

Re: POLL: Relating to Power: The Christian and Politics

If they resist sin and don't give into it, then they are not "gay". I think we're arguing about the right way to define this word. The man who wrote the article resisted sin and did not give into it, yet described himself as gay. He wrote the article to explain his journey to others - gay...

Re: "gay Christian"

How would you suggest talking/writing about those who identify as Christian but who don't follow the teachings of Christ? Always say "so-called Christians" or use quotes around Christian when writing? I think the man I was describing was following the teaching of Christ. He was trying to ...

Re: "gay Christian"

I think it's foolish to fake on an identity which consists of nothing other than choosing to engage in sin. In the thread, I talked about a gay celibate Christian. That's how he identified himself in the article I read. By this, he meant that he is attracted to men rather than women. Would you pref...
